DESTINATIONS: Lindbergh Private Game Estate

"As the earth rolls onwards into night we sit under the large thatched boma taking in the infinite space and peace. The wide open plains and rolling grasslands sing with the cooing of turtle doves punctuated by the staccato caught of rutting impala.

Lindbergh Lodge is unique as a South African destination. It is Serengeti just an hour's flying from Johannesburg'. It is not the cluttered Mopani tree filled landscape of the Mpumalanga Lowveld. At Lindbergh Private Game Estate the bush is wide open and the space quickly fills your head, displacing the stresses of a busy urban existence and the tensions of the journey." "We were approached by HKM Productions based in Los Angeles to service produce a Suzuki Vitara television commercial for them here in South Africa. The brief was to find a location that was "Kenya-esque" in look and feel, duplicating the plains of the Serengeti. Lindbergh Private Game Estate is nicely positioned just three hours from Johannesburg with personnel and equipment within easy reach. The locations are varied enough to give any director a lot of options and is easily traversed with good and well-maintained roads. The accommodation at the Lodge itself is very comfortable. The management and staff are also more than accommodating and helpful with nothing being a problem. Our American clients had a fantastic and memorable time as did we and we look forward to another brief which would enable us to return to Lindbergh Game Estate".

"I had the pleasure of managing a very successful shoot at Lindbergh Private Game Estate in mid July 1999. Should you be looking for open African landscapes, it makes good sense to shoot here for a number of reasons. First of all, and most importantly the Lodge is situated in a large game estate. One can find open African grassland and clean uncluttered horizons within a ten-minute drive from the accommodation. In the same breath, one can turn the camera and find groves of flat-topped Acacia trees, iconographic representations of the African bush.
There is also an abundance of game. Therefore in terms of general aesthetic, one can find a number of beautiful landscapes as diverse as flat grasslands, to forests, to rolling hills all located in an extremely close proximity to each other. In addition the fact that I could sleep all the crew on the same game reserve helped enormously with coordinating the shoot and saved time in the mornings and on WRAP. I also found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They were always quick to offer a hand and helped the shoot on to its smooth completion. The Lodge catered for the crew in the evenings and the food was simply superb!"

"September 26, 2000

Hello to Diana and all of the folks at the Lindbergh Private Game Estate!
I am writing not only to thank you for the most kind hospitality you provided during our summer Jeep shoot in Africa, but to respond with a strong letter of recommendation to the film community.

Our Jeep commercial couldn't have looked more spectacular had it not been for the wonderful backdrop that the Lindbergh Private Game Estate provided. Originally, it was suggested to shoot in Tanzania. This would have greatly limited our production resources, not to mention the dangers that are present in the "wild". Since there are no predators in the reserve, we were not limited by the dangers and restrictions this would have caused. Being a quick puddle jump away from Johannesburg offered much relief to a hectic schedule of getting equipment, cars and people in and out quickly. What a relief knowing we weren't staying in tents without running water or electricity, not to mention faxes and phones.

It made a long day of shooting pleasurable knowing a warm and cheerfully decorated suite was waiting for a peaceful night of rest. Of course, that was only after enjoying the wonderful African cuisine in the candlelit dining room that was superb every evening. The staff could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The knowledge and pride that everyone has towards the land allowed us to openly explore and find the "perfect" spots for shooting.

I'm looking forward to another Jeep "shoot" on the Estate. Thanks one again,".
